茶 人
茶
人 Modern Chinese tea culture
traces its roots to Ming dynasty. When tea culture evolved into a pursue of the
perfect life style.
With
the Chinese culture there has always been a pragmatic and materialistic
orientation. Chinese in its 6 millennium of culture has only produced 2
indigenous “spiritual” movement. Daoism and Confucianism both of which
concentrated mainly on the here and now.
The
purpose of man in this world is an irrelevant question to the Chinese. Rather
how a man should live, eat, sleep, talk, war, sex and conduct of politics is a
more central preoccupation of Chinese.
Within
this pragmatic milleu evolved this special spiritualness of the Chinese. Tea
culture would be one of this expression.
Brewing
tea, making tea, drinking tea is a everyday daily affairs for everybody.
Whether rich, powerful or poor. It is an experience of here and now. Be with
ourselves.

Tea Form
Forms and Matters of Tea Life
色空
即即
是是
空色
Form
is emptiness
Emptiness
is Form
I
had deliberately chosen the word color to represent this section. In ancient
Tang character it stands for forms and matter.
I feel it represent perfectly my experience of tea ceremony and Tea
wares 茶器
Formality
is so important in social situation for an uncontrolled social gathering can
frequently and quickly decent into Chaos which can be embarrassing to the host.
The guest’s inability to react to the requirement of a social occasion also can
cause endless shame and embarrassment. Tea ceremonies and all its various form
evolved from this principle.
Tea
wares are not just utilitarian but give pleasures to our senses. These wares
not just serve a function for tea life but they go further to bring us into the
state of Tea life.
I
also understand it is quite meaningless to repeat what is found in technical
books on tea ceremony or learned directly from a tea teacher. What I want to
achieve is the readers has a basic knowledge on tea ceremony and appreciate the
fine Tea ceramics and porcelains. From this appreciate the cup of Tea better.
For what is life without tea?

Living with nature
共
生To live with nature
This
is an old Chinese idiom; we must learn to live with nature.
The
current fad of everything organic is driving places like China, Vietnam to
clear virgin forest for this selfish quest for so called healthy organic
food. Medically organic food has not
proven itself to be more nutritious and healthy! The question of whether
organic is really more healthy is still out there?
If
the farmers put tons of organic fertilizer which destroy the water source and
poison the lake and ponds. With run off of rain causing erosion and landslide,
is it really ethical? Do we have the right to destroy Nature with our dreams of
longer and healthier life?
A
traditional Taiwan tea farmer told me, “ tea made traditionally is already
organic, all this organic this and organic that is really just a marketing tool
to make more money!”
Better
to go with tradition. Go for the mid mountain tea with an altitude of around
1500 meters and let the farmers get on with traditional farming method. The
farmers are more worried about their environment then you. For if they destroy
their land they suffers the consequences.
We can show our support by not buying cheap commercialized mercantile
traded tea. We should not support slave labor trade and uncontrolled
exploitation of nature. This will fundamentally change the economy of tea
industry in Indonesia, Vietnam, India, Sri Lanka and China. By using Nature’s
limited resource to produce quality affordable tea we contribute to the well
being of mother earth.

Eating rice or eating rice 吃米还是吃饭
Eating rice or eating rice
吃米还是吃饭
This was one of my encounter with the Grandmaster of Chinese
Tea.
A young and over eager enthusiastic me : “Instruct me in the
way of Tea ? “
Master Sim : “ when u are hungry, what do you do ? “
Me : “ Eat “
Master sim : “ When u are thirsty , what do u do ? “
Me : “ Drink, drink water to be precise.”
Master Sim : “ When you eat rice do you eat the uncooked
rice or cooked rice ? “ “吃米还是吃饭”
Me : “ Cooked rice ! “ 吃饭
Master sim : “ Very good , do you understand ? “
After some months of pondering,
My answer : “Eating
rice is different from eating rice. But Eating rice is still eating rice! “
吃饭不是吃米, 吃饭也是吃米 !
Master Sim : “ So what is your problems! “
Master Sim : “ The way of tea is nothing but tea and water .
“
Me : “ there is eating rice and there is eating rice”
“吃米还是吃饭”

Passionate passion fruit vine
The vines are symbols of productivity and efficiency.
Which is the central teaching of Islam. One must be productive in one life.
This value has been assimilated into chinese culture.
it has become a Chinese value .
The passion fruit plant was from a bird dropping in carrie's old master's jasmine tree. The jasmine tree is around 100 year old . over a period of 2 months the vines has run wild in the tea gardern. even try to assimilate the fish net !

Hearing the song of tea
Hearing
Grand Master
sim :
“Have you
ever heard the voice of tea? “
Me : “ Hmmm,
not really. Being to Tea mountain and bath in virgin spring water –does that
count?”
Grandmaster
Sim :
“You can
hear them right now—the mountains. Spring rain, the wind, the earth and stones
of the mountain!”
Me : “ How ?
“
Grandmaster
Sim :
“Sit up
straight, stop slouching, face forward, put the fragrance cup near to your
nose, inhale . Do you hear them now ?”
Well in that
moment I really did heard the mountain , the rains, the earth and the Tea .
So when you
drink tea do you hear the tea voice ?
